Kung Fu Killer (2014)

Gonna Hurt

Tagline: Nobody’s going down without a fight

Year: 2014          Runtime: 100 min

Director: Teddy Chan

Writer: Teddy Chan

Starring: Donnie Yen, Charlie Yeung, Baoqiang Wang

My Expectations:

Kick-ass Kung Fu.

The Pay Off:

Some good Kung Fu fighting but overall there’s too much rope work.

Don’t get me wrong, Donnie Yen is awesome, as are the other martial artists in Kung Fu Killer. But just like CGI, rope work is taking too much from the actors’ performances. I know that everyone can’t be Tony Jaa. Still, it would be nice to see the actors’ actual skills more than fantastic tricks.

Otherwise, it’s a decent action film. Eh.

Attractions:

  • Donnie Yen.
  • After decades of Hong Kong Kung Fu movies, finally someone admits “Kung Fu is for killing.” Thank you!
  • Homage to many Hong Kong Kung Fu legends. (Don’t recognize them? Stay through the credits.)
